High-energy cosmic neutrinos and the equivalence principle.

چکیده
Observation of ultra-high energy neutrinos, in particular detection of ντ , from cosmologically distant sources like active galactic nuclei (AGN) opens new possibilities to search for neutrino flavor conversion. We consider the effects of violation of the equivalence principle (VEP) on propagation of these cosmic neutrinos. In particular, we discuss the two effects: (1) the oscillations of neutrinos due to VEP in the gravitational field of our Galaxy and in the intergalactic space, (2) resonance flavor conversion driven by the gravitational potential of AGN. We show that ultra-high energies of the neutrinos as well as cosmological distances to AGN, or strong AGN gravitational potential allow to improve the accuracy of testing of the equivalence principle by 25 orders of magnitude for massless neutrinos (∆f ∼ 10) and by 11 orders of mag-

Medium effects in string-dilaton-induced neutrino oscillations
We consider the unconventional way to interpret the current data on solar neutrino oscillations as derived recently by Halprin and Leung from a string model based on the existence of the string dilaton field which remains massless in the low-energy world. The equivalence principle violation entailed by the existence of a massless dilaton may then produce neutrino oscillations even for neutrinos...
متن کاملStringent constraint on the scalar-neutrino coupling constant from quintessential cosmology
An extremely light (mφ ≪ 10 eV), slowly-varying scalar field φ (quintessence) with a potential energy density as large as 60% of the critical density has been proposed as the origin of the accelerated expansion of the Universe at present. The interaction of this smoothly distributed component with another predominately smooth component, the cosmic neutrino background, is studied. The slow-roll ...
متن کاملSearch for High Energy Neutrino Emission from Gamma - Ray Bursts
The photo-meson production of pions by shock-accelerated protons could generate a burst of ∼ 10 14 eV neutrinos from gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) observable in the Antarctic Muon and Neutrino Detector Array (AMANDA) or its larger successors. Measurement of this flux can test the hypothesis that GRBs are the sources of the highest-energy cosmic rays, and GRB neutrinos could permit high-precision expe...

In this contribution i discuss the possibility of production of high energy cosmic tau neutrinos (E ≥ 10 GeV) in cores of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) originating from proton acceleration. The effects of three flavour neutrino mixing on this high energy cosmic tau neutrino flux and the prospects for its observations through double shower events [1]. In addition to AGNs, high energy cosmic tau n...
